Microsoft Fax Service is a standard Windows component. To install Microsoft Fax Service follow instructions in the To install Microsoft Fax Service section of this guide.
Microsoft Fax Service can operate with Fax Voip Virtual COM Ports via FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax driver for modems.
To install Virtual COM Ports open Fax Voip FaxModem Control Panel, select Lines, then click <Add/Remove> button.
Fax Voip installs FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax driver for modems. Compared with the standard modem driver, this driver provides support for Caller ID. To add modems using Phone and Modems option in the Windows Control Panel not recommended. To install modem open Fax Voip FaxModem Control Panel, select Lines, then click Modems button.
Notes
- The maximum allowed number of fax modem devices that can be used with Microsoft Fax depends on the operating system. On Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, the fax device limit is one. On Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition and on Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Edition, there is no fax device limit. On other versions of Windows 2003 and Windows 2008, the fax device limit is usually four.

To install Microsoft Fax Service
To install the Microsoft Fax Service, follow the instructions for your operating system.
- To install Microsoft Fax Service on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
- To install Windows Fax and Scan on Windows 7 or Windows Vista
- To install the Fax Server role on a Windows Server 2008 computer

To install Microsoft Fax Service on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
- Click Start, point to Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.

- In the Add or Remove Programs window click Add/Remove Windows Components.
- In the Windows Components Wizard dialog check Fax Services; click <Next> button.

- A the final step in the Windows Components Wizard click <Finish> button.

To install Windows Fax and Scan on Windows 7 or Windows Vista

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

In the Control Panel click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off.

In the Turn Windows features on or off dialog box select Windows Fax and Scan, and then click OK.

To install the Fax Server role on a Windows Server 2008 computer

Click Start, and then click Server Manager.

- In the Server Manager in the left pane click Roles, and then in the right pane click Add Roles.

- In the Add Role Wizard, on the Select Server Roles page, select the check box for Fax Server.

- Click Add Required Role Services and then click Next.

To configure the Fax Services in Windows XP

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, point to Fax , and then click Fax Console.

- If the Fax Configuration Wizard does not automatically start, then on the Tools menu, click Configure Fax....

On the Welcome to Fax Configuration Wizard page, click Next.

On the Sender Information page, type the optional information for the fax cover page. Then, click Next.

On the Select Device for Sending or Receiving Faxes page, select the Fax Device FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax. Select the Enable Send check box. If you want to be able to receive incoming faxes, select the Enable Receive check box. Select Automatically answer... option. Then, click Next.

- On the Transmitting Subscriber Identification (TSID) page, optionnaly enter your fax number. Then, click Next.

On the Called Subscriber Identification (CSID) page, optionally enter your fax number. Then, click Next.

On the Routing Options page, select the Print it on check box if you want received faxes to be automatically printed. Then, click Next.

On the Completing the Fax Configuration Wizard page, click Finish. |
To configure the Fax Services in Windows Server 2003
To access the Fax Console

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, point to Fax, and then click Fax Console.

- If the Fax Configuration Wizard does not automatically start, then on the Tools menu, click Configure Fax....

On the Welcome to Fax Configuration Wizard page, click Next.

On the Sender Information page, type the optional information for the fax cover page. Then, click Next.

On the Select Devices for Sending Faxes page, select the Fax Devices FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax and so on. Then, click Next.

On the Transmitting Subscriber Identification (TSID) page, optionally type your fax number. Then, click Next.

On the Select Devices for Receiving Faxes page, if you want to be able to receive incoming faxes, select the Fax Devices FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax and so on. Then, click Next.

- On the Called Subscriber Identification (CSID) page, optionally enter your fax number. Then, click Next.

On the Routing Options page, select the Print it on check box if you want received faxes to be automatically printed. Then, click Next.

On the Completing the Fax Configuration Wizard page, click Finish.
To access the Fax Service Manager

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, point to Fax, and then click Fax Service Manager.

- In the left pane, double-click Devices and Providers, double-click Devices, and then right click on the Fax Device FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax. On the context menu, click Properties.

- On the General page, select the Send faxes check box. If you want to be able to receive incoming faxes, select the Receive faxes check box. In the Transmitting Subscriber ID (TSID) box and in the Called Subscriber ID (CSID) box, optionally type your fax number. Then, click OK.

- On the left pane double-click on the Fax Device FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax, click Incoming Methods, and then in the right pane configure the incoming methods of interest if you want to automatically Print, Route through e-mail (Fax To Email) or Store in a folder received faxes.

To configure the Fax Services in Windows 7 or Windows Vista

Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

- On the Tools menu, click Fax Account.... If no fax modem account was created, click Add..., click Connect to a fax modem and follow the instructions.

On the Tools menu, click Fax Settings....

- On the Select Device dialog box, click Select fax device....

- On the Select Device dialog box, select the Fax Device FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax. Then, click OK.

Back on the General tab, select the Allow the device to send faxes check box. If you want to be able to receive incoming faxes, select the Allow the device to receive fax calls check box. Select Automatically answer... option. Then, click OK. |
To configure the Fax Services in Windows Server 2008
To access the Fax Console

Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

To access the Fax Service Manager

Click Start, and then click Server Manager.

- In the left pane, double-click Roles, double-click Fax Server, and then click Fax.

In the Fax Service Manager, on the left pane double-click Fax, double-click Devices and Providers, double-click Devices, and then right click on the Fax Device FaxVoip Modem 14400 bps Voice-Fax. On the context menu, click Properties.

- On the General page, select the Send faxes check box. If you want to be able to receive incoming faxes, select the Receive faxes check box. In the Transmitting Subscriber ID (TSID) box and in the Called Subscriber ID (CSID) box, optionally enter your fax number. Then, click OK.

Send a Fax
To send a fax with Microsoft Fax Service, follow the instructions for your operating system.

To send a fax

Open the document you want to fax.

On the File menu, click Print. On the Print dialog box, select printer Fax. Then, click Print.

On the Welcome to the Send Fax Wizard page, click Next.

On the Recipient Information page, enter the recipient name in the To field and the recipient fax number in the Fax number field, and then click Add. When all recipients are added, click Next.

- On the Preparing the Cover Page page, optionally select Select a cover page template with the following information check box and complete the corresponding information. Then, click Next.

On the Schedule page, click Next.

On the Completing the Send Fax Wizard page, click Finish.
Your computer will automatically call the fax numbers and send the fax.
To send a fax in Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
To send a fax

Open the document you want to fax.

On the File menu, click Print. On the Print dialog box, select printer Fax. Then, click Print.

On the New Fax page, enter the recipient faxnumber in the To field.

- In the Preparing the Cover Page field, optionally select Cover Page.

Optionally, enter the appropriate information in the fields Subject and Cover page notes.

Click Send to send a fax.
Your computer will automatically call the fax number and send the fax. |
Receive a Fax
To receive a fax with Microsoft Fax Service, follow the instructions for your operating system.
- To receive a fax in Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
- To receive a fax in Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
To receive a fax in Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
If you configured the Fax Services to automatically receive faxes, your computer will automatically answer the calls on the fax line and store the received faxes in the Fax Console.
To view received faxes

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, point to Fax, and then click Fax Console.

On the left panel, select Inbox to view received faxes.

To receive a fax in Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
If you configured the Fax Services to automatically receive faxes, your computer will automatically answer the calls on the fax line and store the received faxes in Windows Fax and Scan.
To view received faxes

Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

On the left pane, select Inbox to view received faxes.
