The standard printto verbs are used by Windows to associate file extension with application responsible for printing of files with given extension. For example, to print text document (*.txt) notepad.exe application usually used. To print files with .doc and .rtf extentions Microsoft Word is used. Printing PDF is usually associated with Acrobat Reader etc... To print files in different graphics formats shimgvw.dll system library or Paint application typically used.

Fax Voip Softphone uses printto functionality in the following cases (except when using the Direct Converting):

• To Send a Fax from the Fax Panel (printing to Fax Soft Virtual Printer).
• When you print a fax in the Log Book (printing to printer selected by user).

The described printto functionality is very useful, but it depends on the applications installed on the system and the settings made ​​by the user. Lack of correct file associations leads to inoperability of the above functions with certain file extensions. Even in the case of well-known extensions, the file association can be corrupted when you install new application. Starting with Windows Vista not possible to configure printto file associations via user interface. In Windows 10 and Windows 8 / 8.1 the default associations do not allow the use printto with most of file extensions. In Windows Server 2016 / 2012 / 2012R2 this problem is not present because new Windows Store apps is not installed by default.

Repairs standard ‘printto’ verbs for standard file extentions under current user account. The currently supported file extentions are: *.txt, *.bmp, *.dib, *. emf, *. gif, *. ico, *. jfif, *. jpe, *. jpeg, *.jpg, *.jxr, *.png, *. rle, *.tif, *.tiff, *.wdp, *.wmf. Notes

• The Repair ‘printto’ verbs function is always performed during Fax Voip Softphone program installation. However, at the time of installation the function is initially executed with administrator privileges, ie excluding the settings of the current user. We recommend that you run this function after Fax Voip Softphone installation, and in the case of problems with printing.
• The log file printto_fix.txt is always stored in the {CommonAppDataFolder}\FaxVoip Softphone\log folder, where {CommonAppDataFolder} is the system file directory containing application data for all users. On Windows XP the name of this folder is usually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data. On Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1/8 and Windows 10 the name of this folder is usually C:\ProgramData.
• Note also that starting with version 2.3.1 the direct call to the shimgvw.dll system library used where possible instead of calling printto.
